The Joséphine de Beauharnais coin was issued to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the birth of Joséphine de Beauharnais, the first wife of Napoleon Bonaparte and the Empress of France. The coin features a portrait of Joséphine on the obverse side, and the reverse side features a depiction of the Château de Malmaison, which was Joséphine's favorite residence. The coin's design was created by the French artist and engraver, Joaquin Jimenez.
