Under the name 'Numismatic Jewels', in 2008 a new series of collector coins begins in which unique pieces of Spanish numismatics will be reproduced, and which will continue over the next few years. For this first edition, dedicated to the Roman aureus and the Greek drachma, the Spanish Royal Mint proceeded to strike a coin in .999 gold which, together with the double 4-reales coin in silver, makes up this new set.
From the middle of the 3rd century BC. C., the Greek colony of "Emporion" minted drachmas that showed on the obverse a female head surrounded by three dolphins. This design was inspired by the one that the artist «Evainetos» created for the issues of the Syracuse mint at the end of the 5th century BC. C. and that later was copied by several Greek mints, among them "Emporion". A Pegasus was engraved on the reverse, accompanied by the Greek inscription EMPORITON.
