The new collection series of coins "Spanish Painters", is formed by a set of broadcasts destined to commemorate the best pictorial artists of Spain. In this first series the Spanish Royal Mint pays tribute to Diego Rodriguez de Silva y Velazquez, considered to be one of the greatest painters that Spain has contributed to world art.

Diego Rodríguez de Silva y Velázquez, Knight of the Order of Santiago (baptized 6 June 1599 – 6 August 1660) was a Spanish painter, the leading artist in the court of King Philip IV of Spain and Portugal, and of the Spanish Golden Age.
