The Jacques Cartier coin represents a gold ecu of Brittany sun, gold ecu of the Francois Ist reign struck in the Duchy of Brittany. The Brittany is symbolised on the coin by ermines.

Monnaie de Paris strikes coins for France since year 864. The treasures, that belongs to its heritage, are the series’ essence. It recounts France’s History on some twenty coins, going from the Roman period until today.The series will be launched in two stages : the first wave in March 2019 and the second one in September 2019. It is composed of 18 10€ Silver coins depicting former french currencies.
Two uncolorized 50€ Silver coins, two colorized 50€ Silver coins and the 200€ Gold coin complete the series and present strong French symbols.
Interesting fact
The Jacques Cartier coin was minted to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Cartier's arrival in Canada in 1608. The coin features an image of Cartier on one side and the French flag on the other, symbolizing the significant role he played in French history and his contributions to the exploration of North America.
