Comment
Archaeopteryx is a genus of bird-like dinosaurs that is transitional between non-avian feathered dinosaurs and modern birds. The name derives from the ancient Greek ἀρχαῖος (archaīos) meaning "ancient", and πτέρυξ (ptéryx), meaning "feather" or "wing". Archaeopteryx lived in the Late Jurassic around 150 million years ago, in what is now southern Germany during a time when Europe was an archipelago of islands in a shallow warm tropical sea, much closer to the equator than it is now.Interesting fact
The 10 Euro coin commemorating 150 years of the Archaeopteryx discovery features a unique design that showcases the evolution of the iconic bird. The obverse side of the coin depicts a stylized representation of the Archaeopteryx, with its wings spread wide, while the reverse side features a fossilized Archaeopteryx skeleton. This design serves as a symbol of the coin's theme, highlighting the transition from prehistoric times to the present day.
