Comment

The Spanish Legion is an elite military force led and created in 1920 by José Millán-Astray, framed within the Spanish Army's Land Force. With the initial name of "Third of Foreigners". The objective was to face the toughness of the fighting in the Rif War (Morocco), for which the replacement troops were not prepared. The date of the enlistment of the first legionary, a thirty-year-old man named Marcelo Villeval Gaitán, on September 20, 1920, is considered the official founding date.
