To commemorate the 1988 Lunar Year of the Dragon, the Monetary Authority of Singapore authorised the Singapore Mint to release a series of commemorative dragon coins. These coins represent the eight issue of the First Lunar Series.

There were three different coins.

The first was a $10 nickel coin, struck in brilliant-uncirculated and released on the 19Jan1988 with an issue price of S$12.50. Mintage was limited to 300,000. The second was a $10 silver coin, struck in proof and released on the 29Apr1988 with an issue price of S$40.00. Mintage was limited to 25,000. The third and final design was a $500 gold coin, struck in proof and released on the 19Jan1988 with an issue price of S$1,200.00. Mintage was limited to 4,000 coins only.
