A symbol of northern power and grandeur, the polar bear is king of the Canadian Arctic. And no wonder: not only is Canada home to the world's largest population of polar bears, but this imposing animal is able to survive in our country's harshest climate.
Interesting fact
The obverse of the coin features a unique polar bear design, created by Canadian artist, Gerald Glover. The bear is depicted standing on its hind legs, with its front paws resting on a block of ice, while its head is turned slightly to the side, as if looking out into the distance. The design is meant to symbolize the majesty and power of the polar bear, as well as its connection to the Arctic landscape.
