On June 1, 1814, off the coast of Boston, a battle broke out between Britain's HMS Shannon and the USS Chesapeake. The war had been going on for a year, the morale of the Royal Navy troops was low, the Shannon's provisions were almost exhausted and the ship was damaged. However, the well-trained crew quickly destroyed the gunboats of their opponent, whose numbers were greater. This intense battle, which lasted 15 minutes, was the bloodiest of all the frigate battles that took place during the war and allowed Great Britain to win a decisive victory.Interesting fact
The HMS Shannon coin is a unique and interesting piece because it features a rare depiction of Queen Elizabeth II in a naval setting, commemorating the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812.
