The Lesser Cinnamon Teal (Anas cyanoptera) is a dabbling duck found in southwestern Canada, the western United States and western South America. Its distinct populations in North and South America make it a unique species. The cinnamon teal generally avoids mating in the mid-continent prairie region - a popular breeding ground for dabbling ducks.

The male measures around 40 centimetres in length and weighs around 400 grams. Its head and body are cinnamon-colored, with pale blue spots on its upper wings. The wingtips are a shimmering green. Its eyes are bright red. The female is brownish-grey with reddish tints, and has a dark beak and wings. Like the male, the female has pale blue spots on her upper wings. Young males are the same color as females, but have red eyes.

In Western Canada, cinnamon teal spend the summer in wetlands, including marshes, ponds and small lakes. The ducks usually choose a different mate each season, and nest close to the water in small grass-lined hollows, well hidden beneath layers of vegetation. The female sneaks through this protective layer to reach her nest. Here, she lays up to 16 ivory-colored eggs. At the end of the season, the ducks migrate to Mexico, California and Arizona.

Did you know?
- Like all dabbling ducks, the Cinnamon Teal feeds on aquatic vegetation, invertebrates and mollusks with its long, spatula-shaped bill.
- The cinnamon teal sometimes mates with the blue-winged teal.
- The female cinnamon teal and the female blue-winged teal are so similar that even the most experienced birdwatchers have difficulty telling them apart.

Packaging
The coin is encapsulated and presented in a burgundy double-shell case adorned with the Royal Canadian Mint logo. The case is accompanied by a black protective box.Automatically translated
