Released by the Royal Australian Mint in 2013 as part of the Kangaroo Gold Proof Series, this coin showcases the first depiction of a kangaroo by a non-Indigenous artist. The artwork, created after Lt. James Cook's 1770 voyage, is based on a specimen collected by naturalist Joseph Banks. British artist George Stubbs' portrayal of the kangaroo captivated Europeans, and this distinctive animal has since become an icon of Australia's unique fauna.

This gold proof coin was struck in 1/10oz .9999 fine gold and issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965. Mintage is 1,500. Each coin is encapsulated and presented in a wooden two-piece presentation case held closed by magnets. A numbered Certificate of Authenticity is included.
