Third coin in the Royal Australian Mint's "Birds of Australia" $10 Sterling Silver Piedfort Series.

The Black-necked Stork is more commonly known as the Jabiru or sometimes the Policeman-bird. It is mainly seen in Northern Australia. Singly, in pairs or small parties the bird frequents swamps, saltwater creeks, tidal flats and lagoons. It is often spotted quietly stalking for fish, crabs and carrion, and every now and again making huge strides and jabbing its prey with its huge bill.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 1991 Australian $10 Elizabeth II (3rd Portrait - Jabiru - Piedfort) silver coin is that it features a unique design of the Jabiru bird, which is a species of stork found in the northern and eastern regions of Australia. The coin's design was created by the Australian artist, Stuart Devlin, who is known for his depictions of native Australian wildlife on coins. The Jabiru bird is shown standing on a branch, surrounded by foliage, and its feathers are depicted in intricate detail. The coin's design is not only aesthetically pleasing but also serves as a symbol of Australia's rich wildlife and natural heritage.
