THE BCCS LOGO
Conceptualised around the initials of the Board, the letters BCCS are creatively linked to form a ($) and (¢) as well as an innder (S) which stands for Singapore. Together they signify the Board's main function of issuing Singapore currency.
The logo consists of two interlocking elongated (c) and a vertical bat. They represent a solid locking mechanism which in turn signifies that the Singapore currency stock is well protected and safeguarded in the Board's vault.
The logo also resembles the Chines character for chariot which in Chinese chess is a very important and powerful piece, moving in only straight lines. This symbolises the Board's high standard of integrity and prudence. The overall shape of the logo is squarish, portraying the strength and stability of the Singapore currency.
THE RELEASE OF THE 1992 BCCS 25th ANNIVERSARY COINS
The Board of Commissioners of Currency, Singapore (BCCS) authorised the release of these anniversary commemorative coins in three different denominations on the 2 October 1992. The first was the $10 Silver Piedfort Proof coin with an issue price of S$98.00 and a mintage of 10,800. The second was the $100 Gold Proof coin with an issue price of S$988.00 and a limited mintage of 759. The third was the $200 Platinum Proof coin with an issue price of S$1280.00 and a very limited mintage of 300.
In addition, the Singapore Mint also released 200 3-in-1 coin sets featuring all three coins. The mintages of these coins are above the published mintages of the individual coins. The sets were also released on the 2 October 1992 and had an issue price of S$2388.00.
The encapsulated $10 Silver Piedfort coins were sold with commemorative stamps as Philatelic Numismatic Covers (PNC), the stamps being postmarked 2-10-1992. They were presented in a cardboard folder and protected by a cardboard sleeve.
A numbered Certificate of Authenticity was included.
The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) took over the currency issuance function following the merger with the Board of Commissioners of Currency, Singapore (BCCS) in October 2002.
Interesting fact
The 1992 Singapore $10 Piedfort coin has a unique feature - it has a square hole in the center, which is a distinctive characteristic of Piedfort coins.
