This Copper-nickel Coin was issued by the RAM on 4th May 2023 as part of a 2023 Six-Coin Uncirculated Set – Creatures of the Deep Lunch Kit. Each coin in the set has the special Queen Elizabeth II Memorial obverse.

A snapshot of Australia’s vibrant underwater world is showcased on the Royal Australian Mint’s latest complete set of six uncirculated coins featuring the 2023 suite theme Creatures of the Deep, developed with CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency. Comprising a 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c, $1 and $2 coin, the set is creatively presented in a recyclable cardboard coin box within a themed, thermal lunch bag with silicone snack pouch. Take a journey below the surface this lunchtime!

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a unique obverse design, known as the "Memorial Obverse," which was created to commemorate the life and reign of Queen Elizabeth II. This design features a portrait of the Queen that is surrounded by a wreath of flowers, and it is only available on certain non-circulating coins issued by the Royal Australian Mint in 2023.
