In 2004, the Surinamese gulden was replaced by the Surinamese dollar. This coin was revalued at 1/10 of a dollar.
The Standard Catalog of World Coins originally stated that coins from 1987 to 1989 were made of nickel plated steel and classified them as KM# 13a. This has been corrected and those years are now classified as KM# 13. The current definition of KM# 13a is for nickel plated steel coins produced in 2021.
