Interesting fact
The 10 Cents coin from Zimbabwe was introduced in 2001 and was in circulation until 2003. It was made of nickel-plated steel and weighed 3.8 grams. What's interesting about this coin is that it was one of the lowest denomination coins in circulation during a period of hyperinflation in Zimbabwe. In 2008, the inflation rate in Zimbabwe reached a staggering 89.7 sextillion percent, which rendered the currency essentially worthless. As a result, the government was forced to abandon the Zimbabwean dollar and adopt foreign currencies, such as the US dollar and the South African rand, as legal tender. Today, the 10 Cents coin is a rare collector's item and a reminder of Zimbabwe's economic struggles in the early 2000s.
