The coin features a unique design, with the obverse side bearing the image of a young woman representing the allegory of France, while the reverse side features a crowned shield with the letters "NC" (for New Caledonia) and the coin's denomination. This design was created by the French engraver, Jean-Camille Formigé, who was known for his work on various French coins and medals during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
