Comment
These coins were cast with a nominal value of 10 Cash to fund the war with the Western Xia. In 1048, these were reduced to a value of 3 Cash, more accurate to their weight.Hartill says these bronze pieces were cast in Jiangnan, and the only mints seemingly open in that province at that time were the Guangning and Yongping Mints. The Yongfeng Mint was close to the area, so it is possible these pieces were also cast at that mint.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it was produced during the reign of Emperor Renzong of the Northern Song Dynasty, who ruled from 1022 to 1063. This coin was part of a series of reforms that aimed to stabilize the economy and improve the currency system of the empire. The Qingli era, which translates to "清理" (Qīnglǐ) in Chinese, means "clearing up" or "rectification," reflecting the government's efforts to address economic challenges and restore order to the empire.
