Comment
Born on August 12, 1932, Queen Sirikit, daughter of Prince Chandaburi Suranath and Luang Bua Kitiyakara, is the great-granddaughter of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), a lineage she shares with her husband, King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX).The daughter of an ambassador, she spent her youth abroad, her father representing the Thai government in England, Denmark and France. It was in Paris that the Queen first met her future husband, then a student, whom she accompanied to Switzerland, where she became engaged on July 19, 1949. The couple's final return to Thailand in 1950 began with a royal wedding, celebrated at the Pathumwan Palace on April 28, a week before the coronation.
