Comment

This was the proposed pattern for the well-known "Fat Man dollar" type, and was struck at the Tientsin Mint.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the Pattern 1 Yuan (1914) coin is that it was designed by the Italian sculptor and engraver, Luigi Giorgi, who was commissioned by the Republic of China to create a new currency that would symbolize the country's transition towards modernity and economic growth. The coin's design features a stylized portrait of a Chinese man, known as the "Fat Man dollar," which was meant to represent the country's prosperity and good fortune. Despite its unique design, the coin was never widely circulated and remains a rare and valuable collector's item to this day.
