The Modern Pentathlon coin was designed by Chinese artist Wu Xiaoling, who is known for her work in creating commemorative coins for the People's Republic of China. This coin was part of a series of coins issued to celebrate the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and it features a depiction of a modern pentathlete in action, surrounded by the Olympic rings and other design elements that reflect the sport's five disciplines: fencing, swimming, riding, running, and shooting.
