Comment
Krause lists a Proof version for all denominations except for the 1 Yuan piece, yet lists a reeded-edge pattern for it. It is said that the Heaton Mint in England produced pattern pieces in 1897, then shipped the dies to the Nanking Mint. When producation began, the original dies were used, with the only change being the addition of a security edge. With all that being said, while the plain edge coin (KM#Pn2) is a pattern, the reeded edge coin (KM#Pn1) is likely a proof like all others of different denominations.Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the Standard circulation coin 1 Yuan - Guangxu (Circled dragon) ND (1898) from Kiangnan Province (Chinese provinces) made of Silver (.900) weighing 27.00 g is that it features a unique design element - a circled dragon on the obverse side, which gives the coin its name. This design was only used on coins minted during the Guangxu period (1875-1908) and is considered a distinctive feature of this coinage.
