Interesting fact
The 1 Yeni Kuruş coin was introduced in 2005 as a replacement for the 1 Kuruş coin, which had been in circulation since 1946. The new coin was designed to have a more modern look and feel, and it featured a depiction of the Turkish Republic's founding father, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, on its obverse side. The coin's reverse side features the denomination and the year of minting, surrounded by a wreath of olive branches. The use of brass in the coin's composition was a deliberate choice to make it more durable and resistant to wear and tear, as well as to give it a distinctive golden color that would be easily recognizable to the public. Despite its relatively short time in circulation, the 1 Yeni Kuruş coin has become a popular collector's item, particularly among numismatists who appreciate its unique design and historical significance.
