The obverse & reverse inscription, a rhyming couplet, reads muhammad 'ali ghazi ibn-e 'umar / ba-ferghana zad sikka bar sim[-o] zar, "Muhammad 'Ali the victorious, son of 'Umar, in Ferghana struck coin[s] of silver and gold". A second date, 1247, badly engraved, also appears on the reverse.
