Comment

In 699, St. Rupert received the ruined remains of Salzburg, then called Juvavum, as a gift from the Duke of Bavaria. There, he promoted the salt mines (Salz in German) that gave the city its new name. He is considered the apostle of Bavaria, Carinthia and Austria.

This type has a variant in the obverse legend, ending with "PRIM".
