Mintmaster Zacharias Daniel KelpInteresting fact
The 1 Thaler coin from the Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, issued during the reign of Frederick William (1705-1706), was made of silver, but it was also one of the first coins to feature a portrait of the ruling monarch on one side and an image of a mythical creature on the other. Specifically, the obverse (front) side of the coin features a portrait of Frederick William, while the reverse (back) side features an image of a griffin, which is a mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle. This unique design was meant to symbolize the power and strength of the Mecklenburg-Schwerin dynasty.
