Comment

The entire mintage, except for 3 pieces, was melted down soon after striking. The mintage of 16 referred to was a restrike in 1787 from original dies. The original has an edge in leaf motif, whereas the restrike has a reeded edge. Only one original strike is presently known, in the Berliner Münzkabinett

Interesting fact

The obverse of the coin features a portrait of King Frederick II, also known as Frederick the Great, who ruled Prussia from 1740 to 1786. He was known for his military conquests, administrative reforms, and cultural achievements, and is considered one of the most important figures in German history. The coin's design was created by the artist Johann Philipp Hebel, who was a prominent engraver and medalist of the time.
