Interesting fact
The 1 Syli 1971 coin from Guinea was the first coin to be issued by the country after it gained independence from France in 1958. It was introduced as part of a new currency system that replaced the West African CFA franc, which had been used in the region since 1945. The coin was designed by the Guinean artist, Mamadou Diarra, and it features a stylized image of a Guinean woman on one side and the national emblem on the other. The coin was made of aluminum and had a weight of 1.15 grams. It was a significant step towards Guinea's economic independence and was widely used in the country until it was replaced by a new currency in 1985.
