Sucre, lieutenant to the liberator Simón Bolivar, and winner of the decisive battle of Ayacucho in Peru in 1824, which conferred on him the title of Grand Marshal of Ayacucho and led to the independence of the Spanish colonies in South America. Elected president for life in 1826 of fledgling Bolivia, he abdicated in 1828 to run for president of Colombia, which he won before being assassinated shortly afterwards.Interesting fact
