Comment

Between 1487-1492 the main cities of the Burgundian Netherlands revolted against Maximilian who was acting as regent for the young Philip the Handsome. A number of them , including Ghent, issued coins during this period.

Variants in ending of the legends are known.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 1 Stiver "Vuurijzer" coin is that it was minted during the Ghent Revolt, a time of political and social unrest in the Burgundian Netherlands. The coin's design, which features a vuurijzer (or "fire iron") on one side and Philip the Handsome on the other, was meant to symbolize the power and authority of the ruling class during this tumultuous period. Despite its historical significance, the coin is relatively rare and highly sought after by collectors today.
