Interesting fact
The 1 Speciedaler coin from Norway, issued during the reign of Christian V in 1670, features an interesting design element - a small hole in the center of the coin. This hole was intentionally drilled during the minting process and was used as a way to test the coin's authenticity. The hole was meant to ensure that the coin was made of pure silver, as the drilling process would have been difficult to replicate with a counterfeit coin made of a cheaper metal. This feature makes the 1 Speciedaler coin a unique and interesting example of early coinage technology.
