House of Tudor (1485-1603), Elizabeth I (1558-1603), Hammered coinage, 1st issue (1559-60), 'Fine' gold sovereign.Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the 1 Sovereign - Elizabeth I (1st issue) ND (1559-1560) coin is that it was the first coin to feature the iconic image of Queen Elizabeth I, which has become synonymous with British coinage. The coin's design was created by the French engraver Thomas de la Bere, and it depicts the young Queen Elizabeth I wearing a crown and a necklace, surrounded by the Latin inscription "ELIZABETH DI GRA REGINA ANGLIAE" (Elizabeth, by the grace of God, Queen of England). This design has been used on many subsequent coins and has become an enduring symbol of British royalty.
