Comment

The S at the end of the reverse legend is Sigismund's signature.

Twenty virtually uncirculated examples of these coins were found in the Gourdon hoard around 1845. All examples were struck with the same dies, and those twenty are the only ones known to exist.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about this coin is that it was issued during the reign of Justin I, who was the first emperor of the Justinian Dynasty, which ruled the Byzantine Empire from 518 to 602 AD. The coin features an image of Justin I on one side and a cross on the other, symbolizing the Christian faith that was prevalent during that time. The coin's gold content and intricate design make it a valuable and sought-after collector's item among numismatists today.
