Comment
Counterfeit pieces made at the Suceava mint in Romania exist. These coins were made some time in the 17th century, and for many forgeries, the coins have fictitious dates, including: "12", "14", and "55". Forgeries of coins with actual dates also exist, including: "62". While the crudeness of the counterfeits may vary, they have a much more coppery appearance than the real ones. Even so, the forgeries are still very collectable, and sometimes worth more than the real pieces.Interesting fact
The 1 Solidus coin from Swedish Livonia, minted during the reign of Carl XI (Riga) from 1660-1665, is interesting because it was made of Billon, a metal alloy that was commonly used in the production of coins during that time period. Billon is a mixture of silver and other metals, such as copper, tin, or lead, and it was used to create coins that were lighter in weight and had a lower silver content than pure silver coins. This made it easier for people to use the coins in everyday transactions, as they were more affordable and easier to handle than larger, heavier coins. Despite being made of a less valuable metal, the 1 Solidus coin still held significant value and was widely used in trade and commerce during its time.
