The 1 Sente coin featuring Moshoeshoe II, issued from 1979 to 1989, was the first coin of its denomination to be introduced in Lesotho. It was also the first coin to feature the image of Moshoeshoe II, who was the king of Lesotho from 1966 until his death in 1990. The coin's design was created by the renowned South African artist, Tommy Steyn, and it features a portrait of Moshoeshoe II on the obverse side, with the country's coat of arms on the reverse side.
