Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the 1 Scudo coin from the Papal States, minted during the reign of Gregory XVI (1835-1846), is that it was the first coin to feature a portrait of the Pope on one side and an image of the Roman Catholic Church's patron saint, St. Peter, on the other. This design was a departure from the previous papal coins, which had typically featured an image of the Pope alone. This change in design was seen as a symbol of the Pope's commitment to the Catholic Church and its teachings.
