Comment
Two typologies exist for Giovanni Battista Castagna as legate. The first one when he was Monsignor (1576-1577) shows the arms with a cross above, the second one (1584-85) has the Cardinal cap above as he was nomined Cardinal in 1583.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the 1 Scudo d'Oro - Gregory XIII ND (1584-1585) from Bologna (Papal States) is that it was minted during a time of significant religious and political upheaval. Pope Gregory XIII, who ruled from 1572 to 1585, was instrumental in the Catholic Church's response to the Protestant Reformation and also implemented reforms within the Church itself. Additionally, the Papal States, which covered much of central Italy, were facing challenges from neighboring states and were involved in various military conflicts during this period. Despite these challenges, the Papal States continued to mint coins like the 1 Scudo d'Oro, which remained an important symbol of the Church's authority and power.
