Comment
This coin is often given Dietrich III Resler's full reign (1413-1441); however, scherfs were only made after the end of the Livonian Monetary Reform (1422-1426), replacing the seestlings. Some sources list the ruler as being Dietrich III Resler, while other sources list the ruler as being Dietrich IV Resler.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it was minted during a time of great turmoil in the region. The Bishopric of Dorpat was part of the Livonian Confederation, which was a loose alliance of territories in what is now Estonia and Latvia. During the 15th century, the region was repeatedly attacked by the Teutonic Knights, a German military order, and the Bishopric of Dorpat was eventually annexed by the Teutonic Order in 1441. This coin was likely minted during the brief period of independence that the Bishopric of Dorpat had before its annexation.
