Interesting fact

The Pattern 1 Salueng - Rama V coin was designed by a British engraver named Charles George Leighton, who was commissioned by the Thai government to create a new coinage system for the country. Leighton's design featured a portrait of King Rama V on one side and a depiction of a salueng, a mythical creature from Thai folklore, on the other. The coin was minted in 1869 and was the first coin to feature the king's image. It was also the first coin to be minted in Thailand using modern machinery and techniques, marking a significant milestone in the country's numismatic history.
