Comment

In 2005, the Finance Ministry proposed pure aluminium composition for Rs 1 and 2 while for Rs 5 coin an adjustment of weight has been recommended. The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) also agreed to the proposal.
Further, concerns have been regularly voiced that the sanctity of the names of "Muhammad" and "Ali" appearing on Re.1 coin is not observed and the SBP has, therefore proposed to remove the names from the coin, the word ' Quaid-e-Azam' may be retained.

However this pattern issue never came into circulation. In 2007, the same previous design of 1 Rupee with complete wording "Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah" was retained but in Aluminium with same diameter of 20.00 mm for circulation.

Interesting fact

The Pattern 1 Rupee coin was designed to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Pakistan's independence, and it features a unique pattern that sets it apart from other coins in the series. The coin's design includes a stylized image of the Pakistan flag, along with the year of independence (1947) and the year of issue (2005) on either side. Additionally, the coin's aluminum composition makes it lightweight and easy to handle, which was a deliberate design choice to facilitate easy transactions and everyday use.
