Comment

This was struck in or near Kangding (Tachienlu / Lukuan). It was meant to replace the Indian Rupee, which was used in eastern Tibet and western Szechuan in the 19th century, and is considered the forerunner of the Szechuan Rupee.

Y#A1.2 is said to have a different inscription; however, confirmation is needed on what the inscription is. This piece is seemingly unique, and is located in Kann's collection.

Interesting fact

The Lukuan Rupee was used as a form of currency in Tibet during the early 20th century, specifically between 1902 and 1903. It was made of silver and weighed 11.53 grams. This coin is considered a rare and valuable collector's item today, with some mint conditions selling for thousands of dollars.
