Comment

This type initially was intended to counter the influx of British Indian Rupees entering circulation within the region. However, it was minted on a limited trial basis and never reached full production.

 

The bust on the obverse is generaly thought to be of Guangxu, but some say that it is of Yunnan governor Cen Yuying.

Interesting fact

The Pattern 1 Rupee - Guangxu ND (1907) from Yunnan Province (Chinese provinces) made of Silver is a rare and valuable coin, with only a few known examples surviving to this day.
