Comment
There was evidence that a mint was operated as Sankheda by two goldsmiths namelyJassa Soni and Kaka Soni during (1790-1810 AD). These coins must therefore be
attributed to Govind Rao Gaikwad (2nd reign) or Manaji Rao Gaikwad as regent
for Sayaji Rao I Gaikwad.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the 1 Rupee coin from the Princely state of Baroda is that it features a unique blend of traditional Indian and European design elements. The obverse side of the coin bears the image of Govind Rao Gaikwad (Sankheda), the ruler of Baroda, in a traditional Indian style, while the reverse side features a European-style crowned shield with the Baroda state emblem. This blending of styles reflects the cultural exchange and influence that occurred between India and Europe during the colonial period.
