- The East India Company's existing mint rights were confirmed by the new Nawab of Bengal, 28 July 1757. Under the authority signed on 28th July 1757, the mint name was changed from 'Alinagar Kalkatta' to just 'Kalkatta' and the change on the coins was immediate. Specimens were submitted to the Calcutta Council on 8th August 1757. The first issues were struck in the name of Emperor Alamgir II and later, in the name of Shah Alam.- Weight varies 10.70-11.64 grams

Interesting fact
The 1 Rupee coin from Bengal Presidency (British India) made of Silver weighing 11.64g, minted during the reign of Alamgir II (1171-1173), was one of the first coins to feature the image of a British monarch, King George III, on the obverse side. This was a departure from the traditional Islamic design used on coins in India during that time, and marked the beginning of a new era in Indian numismatics.
