The Asiatic Wild Dog (Cuon alpinus) is known in consequence of very rare encounters mostly in the south-west of Primorsky area and in places adjoining the Amur region.

The coin features an image of an Asiatic wild dog, also known as a dhole, which is a rare and endangered species found in the forests of Russia and other parts of Asia. The coin's design was created by the Russian artist, E.V. Kramer.
