The Amur tiger inhabits the Russian Far East and Maritime Territory. A near-extinct species, it has been included in the Red Book of the International Union for the Protection of Nature and Natural Resources. Hunting the Amur tiger has been banned in the territory of the former Soviet Union since 1947.

Interesting fact

The Amur Tiger coin's design features an image of a tiger standing on a rocky outcrop, with its tail and legs stretched out before it. The tiger is depicted in a naturalistic style, with detailed fur texture and a powerful, muscular physique. The coin's obverse side features the Russian coat of arms and the inscription "РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ" (Russian Federation) in Cyrillic script. The coin's reverse side features a stylized image of a tiger's paw print, along with the coin's denomination (1 РУБЛЬ) and the year of issue (1993). The coin's edge is milled, and its diameter is 33 mm.
