Monument to Marshal M.I. Kutuzov in Borodino. On the top, the inscription "175th anniversary of the battle of Borodino" and below the date "1812".
The Battle of Borodino (in French: Bataille de la Moskova), is the largest and bloodiest action of the French invasion of Russia and of all Napoleonic wars resulting in at least 70,000 deaths. There the French Grand Army under Emperor Napoleon I attacked the Russian Imperial Army of General Mikhail Kutuzov near the village of Borodino, and finally captured the main positions on the battlefield, but failed to destroy the Russian army, despite heavy losses.
