Krause mentions this note under Y#7: "Copper trial strikes dated AH1344 reported."Interesting fact
The Pattern 1 Riyal coin was designed by the renowned British engraver and artist, George William De Saulles, who was responsible for creating many of the coinage designs for the Mutawakkilite Kingdom during the early 20th century. De Saulles' design for the Pattern 1 Riyal features a portrait of King Yahya on the obverse, while the reverse depicts a stylized representation of the country's national emblem, which includes a shield with the Arabic inscription "Al-Mutawakkilite Kingdom" surrounded by two palm trees and a crescent moon. The coin's design was meant to symbolize the kingdom's rich history and cultural heritage, as well as its commitment to Islamic principles.
