The Dutch rijksdaalder, which takes its name from the German reichtaler, was created to match the latter's characteristics and facilitate international trade.This coin was introduced in accordance with the monetary ordinance of 1606, with a value of 50 stuivers, a weight of 29.03 grams and a silver content of 0.885.
In all, some 823,880 coins were produced, including ½ Rijksdaalders.
There are variations in the portrait as well as in the cut of the legends by the sword.
