Interesting fact

The 1 Øre coin from Norway, minted during the reign of Oscar II (1876-1902), features a unique design element - a small hole in the center of the coin. This hole was intentionally added to the design to help prevent the coin from being counterfeited. The idea behind it was that the hole would make it difficult for counterfeiters to produce a convincing copy of the coin, as it would require specialized equipment and expertise to create a coin with a similar hole. This feature, known as a "counterfeit-proof" measure, was a pioneering effort in the field of coinage and has since been adopted by other countries in their own coin designs.
